JA Central Ontario and Finastra are giving high school students the opportunity to experience the thrills of trading on the stock market with an exciting online program.
"Finastra believes that the future of finance is open, and financial literacy is paramount to that ideal. Helping prepare students for a successful future by learning financial literacy is something we are proud to support."
JA Canada’s Investment Strategies Program (ISP) is a unique opportunity for students in Grades 8 to 12 to experience the real-world ups and downs of trading on the stock market. Competing against others across Canada, participants explore the different ways in which people save and invest for their future.
ISP is a 6-week simulation that uses live data from North American stock markets to teach students how to apply key investing principles in a real-world situation. The program includes interactive lessons and culminates in an online stock market simulation beginning on April 27th, called Invest JA, where students manage their own simulated stock portfolio. With over 500 teams from Central Ontario and over 1000 in total across the country, this is a Canada-wide competition like no other!
Finastra, the global Financial Services company, is supporting JA Central Ontario teams as they take on this tough competition. In the process, the Finastra team provides support and encouragement, helping students make the most of this unique experience.
“Finastra believes that the future of finance is open, and financial literacy is paramount to that ideal,” says Siobhan Byron Senior Vice President, Technology Enabled Managed Services at Finastra. “Helping prepare students for a successful future by learning financial literacy is something we are proud to support. After all, studies have shown that the earlier you learn finance, the more likely you are to invest and save later in life. With three $1,000 Finastra sponsored post-secondary scholarships awarded, we look forward to a wonderful competition.”
A worthwhile experience
Students taking part in ISP have the opportunity not only to learn key life skills, but also to win big. The team who gains the most equity throughout the program will win a scholarship to be used towards their continued education.
“We’re thrilled to be working with Finastra to bring ISP to students across our region,” says Jane Eisbrenner, CEO and President at JA Central Ontario. “This unique program gives students an insight into the worlds of investment and financial planning – truly invaluable lessons in today’s changing world. We can’t wait to see how our Central Ontario teams do, and to celebrate their success once the program has ended. Good luck everybody!”
