Announcement: Recipient of Community Services Recovery Fund

We have been selected as a funding recipient of the Community Services Recovery Fund

We are pleased to share that we have been selected as a funding recipient of the Community Services Recovery Fund, funded by the Government of Canada.

Recognizing that donor patterns are changing in Ontario, we are adapting and responding in order to meet new expectations.

This funding will provide critical capacity building and strategic development for JA Central Ontario, enabling us to take the necessary steps to diversify our methods of sustainable growth.

About the Community Services Recovery Fund

The Community Services Recovery Fund is a $400 million investment from the Government of Canada to support community service organizations, including charities, non-profits and Indigenous governing bodies, as they adapt and modernize their organizations. The Community Services Recovery Fund is being delivered through three National Funders – Canadian Red Cross, Community Foundations of Canada, and United Way Centraide Canada.

Raising funds post-pandemic

Over the past several years, we have seen a reduction in the number of donors who are engaging with JA Central Ontario’s programs and activities. We are not alone in this experience – the Toronto Social Capital Study 2022 (page 5) reports that between 2018 and 2022, there has been a 12% decline in the number of people who have donated to an organization.

Our community’s needs are changing and increasing in number and we have the expertise, experience and ability to address many of those needs. With this funding we will build our capacity to reach even more people in our region.

Strengthening our fundraising infrastructure

Thanks to this funding, we will strengthen our fundraising infrastructure by grounding it in a sustainable, diversified revenue plan. This plan will help us achieve our strategic goal of raising $3.25 million and equitably reaching 60,000 young people through JA learning experiences by 2025.

We are building on everything we learned over the past few years and focusing on this post-pandemic fund development strategy, setting our organization up for sustainable growth.

Thank you

Our thanks goes to the Government of Canada as well as the national funders of the Community Services Recovery Fund: the Canadian Red Cross, Community Foundations of Canada and United Way Canada.

Additionally, we’d like to thank the Toronto Foundation for their work in the Community Services Recovery Fund and their continued support for JA Central Ontario.
