Police Screening for Volunteers

Why do I need a Vulnerable Sector Check?
JA Central Ontario has a legal and moral responsibility to ensure the safety and well-being of those we serve, those who work for us and those who come into contact with our operations. Safeguarding of all people whom we serve - whether they are youth, volunteers, or employees is critical. We are obligated to provide a safe environment, especially for youth, no matter how or where we serve them. Everyone who works with or comes in contact with youth - whether staff or volunteers, should be aware of their personal obligations for the safety of those we serve.
Vulnerable Sector screening is a requirement as a volunteer of JA Central Ontario and all school boards we work with. A Vulnerable Sector Check provides the screening of individuals who intend on working or volunteering with vulnerable people.
A vulnerable person is defined as a person who, because of their age, disability, or other circumstances, whether temporary or permanent, is in a position of dependence on others or is otherwise at a greater risk than the general population of being harmed by a person in a position of authority or trust relative to them.
