How ISP works

JA Canada’s Investment Strategies Program (ISP) is a unique opportunity for students in Grades 8 to 12 to experience the real-world ups and downs of trading on the stock market. Competing against others across Canada, participants explore the different ways in which people save and invest for their future.

The program includes interactive teacher-led lessons that focus on key investment principles. These lessons culminate in an online stock market competition beginning on October 26th, called Invest JA, where students manage their own simulated stock portfolio. This 6-week simulation uses live data from North American stock markets to teach students how to apply key investing principles in a real-world situation.

With over 400 teams from Central Ontario and hundreds more from across the country, this is a Canada-wide competition like no other.

Students will:
  • Understand the pros and cons of different investments
  • Identify the advantages and disadvantages of various securities
  • Test their knowledge by competing against other teams from across Canada in an online stock market simulation

Winter competition dates
  • Teacher Orientation Webinar (optional) – December 9th
  • Winter ISP Trial Simulation – January 4th - 15th
  • Winter ISP Competition* January 18th - February 26th

*TFSA prize for eligible high school students only

Quadmestered High School Teachers

For teachers running courses on a quadmester schedule, your students in quads 2 and 3 can participate in the Winter ISP Simulation. This offering was newly added this year to accommodate quadmestered students.

For Quad 2 students: The competition will start in Quad #2 with the teacher in their classroom. Continuing in the competition after Quad #2 finishes is optional for students who are interested in playing independently and competing for the prize in the winter competition until ISP concludes on February 26; no teacher support is required.

For Quad 3 students: Teachers can access the ISP resources and guide their students through the four lessons. Students can check out the simulation. If students would like to participate in the ISP competition from start to finish, they can return as individual students to compete in the spring session of ISP (Trial: April 12-23 and Competition: April 26- June 4).
