Online Career Mentorship for a New Generation

Fidelity and JA Central Ontario are empowering the high school students through innovative virtual mentorship.
With the pandemic in the rear-view mirror, high school graduation rates are increasing – but the road from school to work isn’t smoothing out (Future Skills Centre, 2022). Students are, now more than ever, in need of expert careers and support as they plan ahead, and career guidance and mentorship play a big role in preparing students for an ever-changing job market.
JA Central Ontario developed the Investing in your Future event in partnership with Fidelity Investments to support students as they look to their futures. This innovative, online event welcomed over 700 high school students from across Central Ontario – bringing them together with industry experts to discuss careers in finance and investing.
“Fidelity is honoured to participate in JA’s Investing in Your Future event,” Linda Passarelli, VP Talent Management, Fidelity Investments. “We believe in the power of student mentorship, and the importance of financial literacy from a young age. This event provided the ideal platform to support these initiatives.”
During the event, five volunteers from Fidelity Investments discussed their own career paths and brought importance finance and business concepts to life for students. Speakers covered a wide range of careers and backgrounds, from HR and learning design to sustainable investments and business development. The team also shared a video from Fidelity Investment Canada’s Money Gains series, designed to teach students key investment skills.
As students look ahead to life after high school, hearing from professionals with real-life experience will help them envision an exciting future at works for them. Investing in your Future allowed students to ask questions, hear about failures as well as failures, and explore a variety of career options – giving them the confidence and connections to start building something amazing, starting right now.
