World of Choices: Empowering Young Women is a virtual event that provides up to 350 girls, ages 14-20 years, an opportunity to learn and be inspired by women who have achieved success in a variety of sectors.
The event will include a blend of virtual live and digital activities, intended to inspire young women and help them to understand the limitless opportunities available to them as they pursue their educational and career goals. In an ever-changing world it is vitally important that we are united in supporting young women today so we can change the story of tomorrow.
In these challenging, changing times, we want to guarantee this event impacts as many young women as possible. In response to feedback from educators across our region, we are aware that the original two-day event could pose a challenge for students to attend.
World of Choices: Empowering Young Women is now taking place on March 25th only to ensure even more students benefit from this fantastic opportunity.
March 25th, 2021, from 1pm to 3:15pm.
The event will be held on Hopin – an online platform similar to Google Meet. There will be a mixture of live speaker sessions (students not on camera or audio) and break-out sessions where students can speak to mentors. Students are encouraged to be on camera during mentor sessions and Career Marketplace for maximum engagement.
All discussions will be moderated by JA Central Ontario volunteers and staff, and the platform does not allow one on one text or video chats. You can read Hopin’s security policy here, and privacy policy here.
The event is aimed at students aged 14-20.
It is ideal for students who identify as women, and who are beginning to think about possible career paths.
Hopin is an online events platform that combines webinar-style live broadcasts with break-out rooms for group discussions.
During the Emcee sessions and speaker presentations, students will listen with their microphones muted and cameras off. There will be a chat function that students can use to ask questions or discuss key topics.
During the mentor sessions, students can unmute their microphones, turn on their cameras if they so wish, and chat with our mentors.
The Career Marketplace will consist of virtual ‘booths’ hosted by our partner organizations. In these ‘booths’, students will find videos and information about these organizations. They will also have the chance to speak to employees who will share their career stories and explore career options with students.
Marketplace representatives will share their camera and audio so students can engage and discuss career-related content. It is optional for students to share their camera (a max. of 10 students on camera at once) and they will also be able to participate in a text chat to ask questions and share thoughts.
Students will:
- Identify opportunities to excel in non-traditional career sectors i.e. technology, trades
- Gain confidence in their ability to overcome challenges or barriers to achieving success in a competitive global economy
- Understand how educational decisions can support career opportunities
