World of Choices, Empowering Young Women provides high school girls with an opportunity to hear from women who have achieved success in a variety of sectors.
On March 5th we brought together five inspirational speakers from top companies to share their stories and inspire students. Attendees also had the chance to meet nine fantastic employers and explore the limitless opportunities available to them as they make their career choices.
Our 2020 Speakers
Kayla-Marie Williams joined Toronto’s breaking news team in November 2016, and has been keeping Torontonians up-to-date with the latest headlines through her roles as reporter and co-host for CP24 Breakfast Weekend. She has covered a variety of news stories that matter to the city from work-to-rule teacher strikes to the Toronto Raptors NBA Championship winning season.
Williams has a wide range of experience working in the U.S. and Canada as a reporter, producer and sports reporter. She got her start in broadcast journalism as a reporter/anchor for KTVE10, an NBC-affiliate station in West Monroe, Louisiana. Prior to joining the CP24 team, she was a sideline reporter and host for Ticats TV with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats Football Club.
A Toronto native, Williams attended Grambling State University on a volleyball scholarship and went on to earn her Master of Science in Sports Administration from Georgia State University in 2014. Williams played professional volleyball in the Philippine Superliga before representing Jamaica as a member of their women’s national volleyball team. More than 40 Career Mentors participated in the Empowering Young Women event. Mentors represented a variety of sectors and career pathways and play an influential role in the event as they shared their journeys with the girls. Each mentor had the opportunity to meet approximately 40 girls over the course of the day.

During lunch, attendees had the opportunity to find out more about what organizations are doing to support women in the workplace through the Empowering Young Women marketplace.
