Introducing the Victors: Fall 2023 JA BizCafé Competition

Congratulations to Christina, Emily and Anna, a dynamic trio of grade 10 students from Agincourt Collegiate Institute who are also known as team MochaRocca, for winning round two of the 2023 JA BizCafé competition! In recognition of their achievement, they were awarded a $500 post-secondary scholarship.

JA BizCafé is a business essentials simulation that places high school students as managers of their own small college-town coffee shop. The BizCafé Competition is generously sponsored by Cognizant.

Through this immersive simulation, students will gain valuable and fundamental skills in running their very own businesses. Students will explore handling financial statements, differentiating between cash and accrual accounting, handling staffing issues and much more!

“Our BizCafé experience was a 10-day adventure filled with decisions, challenges, and triumphs,” says the team from Agincourt Collegiate Institute. “After participating, [we] learned how to make vital decisions, including how business strategies and decisions can impact business performance. Our decisions are always thought out before we make them, for each one represents our company brand. Though this may be a game simulation, you should have a realistic perspective. BizCafé is a once in a life time experience with many learning benefits.”

Our thanks goes out to the volunteers from Cognizant who led an engaging online event, guiding students to explore essential business concepts in preparation for the competition.

We welcome teachers interested in participating in the next JA BizCafé Competition, scheduled for April 2024, by reaching out to us via email info@jacentralontario.org.
