Battle of the Ads

Details/Rules & Regulations

Eligibility

Entries will be accepted from all Company Program teams operating within JA Central Ontario during the 2023-2024 Company Program cycle. Each company will be permitted a maximum of one entry to the competition.

The top 3 ads will be featured and the winning team will be announced at ventureON in May.

Step 1: Create an Outline

Create an outline for your video using the criteria below. This will help shape your idea as we want to see your brand, target market and competitive advantage reflected in your commercial.

Outline Your Company Brand

What are your company’s values?

Target Market

Who do you want to sell to?

Consider:

  • Demographics (age, gender, income, occupation, race, etc.)
  • Geographics (location)
  • Psychographics (personality, lifestyle, motivation, attitudes)
  • Behavioural (buyer readiness, product loyalty)

 

Competitive Advantage

​​What sets you apart from the competition?

What is the thing about your product or service that is unique, different, interesting, special, distinctive, uncommon, one-of-a-kind, rare, quirky and exceptional?

Step 2: Create your Commercial Concept

Based on your outline created, brainstorm a commercial idea. The commercial should showcase your company and your product. It should also outline the product benefits and be clear who you are targeting.

Consider the Following

What is your single message? Is your idea simple, original, and have the WOW factor? Can you articulate your idea in a sentence?

Emotional Connection

Is your ad memorable? Does it hit a nerve? Is it insightful? Is it timely?

Plan Your Video
  • Write out your concepts before shooting.
  • Be realistic, what can you accomplish?
  • Consider music, sound design, editing, found footage, lighting, framing.

Step 3: Film Your Commercial

Film Your Commercial! You don’t need a fancy camera, you can record a high quality video on a smartphone. The video should be no longer than 30 seconds – 1 minute long and should include the JA Central Ontario logo. Please ensure you use the correct JA Central Ontario logo found here.

Note: The songs you are able to use in your ad will depend on the song's copyrights. To determine if you are able to use a specific song, please follow the process outlined in this video here.

Step 4: Submit

Upload your video in the form below by Sunday, March 10 at 11:59 pm. In the form below, provide us with a link to your video in MP4 formatno YouTube links please!

The judges scoring will be based on the following:

  • Does the video follow all guidelines? (i.e. length, JA logo requirements)
  • Does the video feature the following: branding, target market, call to action, product features, value proposition, and emotional connection?
  • How well the does the video draw in the viewer and keep their attention?
  • Is the video original and innovative?
  • What is the overall quality of production? (including visuals & audio)
