Volunteer spotlight - Sameer, Zurich Canada
In collaboration with JA Canada and the Z Zurich Foundation, Zurich Canada employees are delivering a range of JA experiences to students across the country, including the unique Economics for Success program. Throughout April and May 2021, over 30 Zurich employees volunteered to join the virtual classroom and teach key finance and business skills to over 1,000 students.
We asked one of these amazing volunteers, Sameer, to share his volunteer experience and explain why he enjoyed sharing his career journey and insights with students.
“The experience was fantastic,” says Sameer. “As a JA Company Program Alum, I was aware of JA’s work and was excited to volunteer as part of its collaboration with Zurich Canada and the Z Zurich Foundation. I remember when I was growing up, financial planning and money management skills weren’t always at the front of my mind, so delivering Economics for Success gave me an opportunity to share these key skills with students.
I enjoyed being able to engage with the whole class and share my experiences with them. I shared careers advice based on my own experience – helping students to see that success if often about learning who you are as a person and what you enjoy.
It was great to be able to give back to the community and make a difference to these students. Even in a virtual setting it was a great session and I’m very grateful to the students for teaching me some things too! I would definitely volunteer for this JA and Zurich project in future.”
