Volunteer spotlight – Robyn Ross

Robyn attended our recent World of Choices, Empowering Young Women event
with her employer Burgundy Asset Management, volunteering as a career mentor. She shared her unique experiences with the next generation to help them shape their future careers.

Working in the traditionally male-dominated field of investment and finance, Robyn is passionate about engaging more young women in this fascinating sector. As part of Burgundy Asset Management’s wider approach to encourage gender equality in their industry, Robyn suggested that the company take part in our World of Choices, Empowering Young Women event earlier this year.

As part of this event, Robyn was able to volunteer as a mentor, bringing her own expertise and experience to the table to inspire our young attendees. With over 200 young women in the room, this was an incredible opportunity to connect with the next generation and help them see the benefits of a career in Financial Services.

“Having this touchpoint with students is incredibly important,” Robyn says. “As a volunteer career mentor, I was able to share my story with these young women and help them understand what the sector can offer them. It’s important they find role models that have succeeded by being themselves – and this event helped showcase women from various industries who have done just that.”

Inspiring the next generation

Robyn was also involved in the event ‘Market Place’, where experts from a range of employers were able to share their experiences with attendees. She was able to use this opportunity to meet potential employees and share important advice with students.

“The event allowed us to connect with some incredible students with lots of potential,” she says. “We ran a prize draw that allowed us to reach over 50 young women, who we’ve continued to mentor and share advice with.”

For Robyn, being a mentor was a highlight of the event and helped her to connect with young women at a key stage in their career.

“I really loved mentoring the students,” she concludes. “I was shocked at how engaged they were. Together with the speakers and workshops, I was able to hopefully make a difference to their lives and help them make key decisions about their bright futures!”
