Empowering a New Generation: Fulfilling our purpose
Innovating
Creating Unique Experiences
JA’s learning experiences continued to inspire and prepare young people through the past school year. Through innovative programming and engaging platforms, we brought digital learning to life - equitably reaching young people across our region. Our online experiences engaged students differently from traditional learning experiences – promoting connection, community and a sense of togetherness for all.
Highlights
Empowering young women and supporting allyship
World of Choices: Empowering Young Women brought over 500 students together with expert mentors and exciting speakers in an interactive online venue. Focusing on celebrating and championing women in the workplace, we welcomed students of all genders to join in conversations about allyship and the importance of creating a gender-inclusive work environment. Students engaged with industry experts and learnt about the career options open to all young women while exploring the importance of equity, diversity and inclusion in the workplace.

Getting hands-on with the future through fun, online competitions
Over 12,272 young people joined our interactive online competitions, getting hands-on with the worlds of work and finance. Through the Investment Strategies Program (ISP), students across our region learned about the stock market and how to build a successful investment portfolio. Students built and managed their research and simulated stock portfolios using real-time stock market data.
The JA Titan competition proved equally popular with high school students in Central Ontario. Through this online, interactive experience, students in grades 9 to 12 learnt the fundamentals of creating a business – becoming CEO of their own company and striving to succeed in a highly competitive industry.

Meet our Students

Owen
Owen from Port Perry High School was the overall winner of the 2022 spring Investment Strategies Program.
After taking a few stock market investing courses over the Summer, the JA Investment Strategies stock market game gave me a great platform to practice and use these skills in real-time with close to real rules. Over the period of the game, I learned about shorting and leveraging while doing my own research. My favourite part about the game was the rules. For example, you can't sell your stocks for an hour after your purchase, and you can't buy stocks under two dollars. The one-hour rule made playing the game harder and added more strategy.

Quinn
Quinn from Abbey Park High School won the 2022 spring Titan Challenge.
The JA Titan Competition is a great way to engage students, such as myself, who are interested in the day-to-day responsibilities and operations of a CEO. I found success by trusting my instincts to make difficult decisions and overcome investing, marketing, and pricing challenges. I would recommend all business courses to include this competition into their curriculum, as it is an amazing opportunity for students to expand their knowledge and have fun.

Mathew
Mathew from Markville Secondary School won the 2022 winter Titan Challenge.
Thank you, JA, for the opportunity to win a scholarship and allow me to participate in the JA Titan Challenge. This challenge was fun because I got the freedom to design my own product and make changes however and whenever I felt I needed to, as the CEO. This challenge was very educational because it taught me that if you overprice items no one will buy them and reinforced my understanding of supply and demand.
