Who Volunteers with
Junior Achievement?
Junior Achievement volunteers
are dynamic, committed individuals who care about the future of today's youth.
Since JA programs focus on the principles of entrepreneurship, economic literacy
and career planning, volunteers must have a basic understanding of current business
principles and operations and possess the ability to communicate in a classroom
setting.
Role of a JA Volunteer
Qualified volunteers, in
partnership with educators, enter the classroom to teach Junior Achievement
programs. In the process of delivering these programs, they help to shape the
future career paths of students. JA volunteers act as positive role models and
mentors by sharing personal knowledge and experience. They strive to enhance
the personal growth of students through experiential learning and they demonstrate
values such as:
Integrity
(honesty, reliability, and ethical behaviour)
Mutual
Respect (treat
all individuals with respect and dignity)
Quality
(strive for excellence and improvement)
Business
Ethics (observe
the standards and policies of the business, education and Junior Achievement
communities)
Volunteerism
(commit the time required to deliver Junior Achievement programs)
Other Opportunities:
As a not-for-profit organization, Junior Achievement relies
heavily on the volunteerism of individuals and companies in order to operate
efficiently and cost-effectively. If you are interested in other volunteer opportunities,
please contact the Programs Department at (416) 360-5252.
Benefits
Being part of Junior Achievement is a fulfilling volunteer experience
and a unique way to achieve personal career objectives. Junior Achievement volunteers:
- Gain a significant sense
of satisfaction and accomplishment from mentoring students and contributing
to their skills development
- Develop and improve useful
life and business skills that are transferable to both professional and social
environments, including leadership, facilitation and problem solving
- Discover opportunities
to network within the business, education, and JA communities
Have FUN
while sharing knowledge and experience with youth!
What our Volunteers
say about JA:
"To those who
may be thinking of participating in the JA Programs, think no more! By being involved
in such work, you will not only fulfill some of your own aspirations as I did,
but you will enrich the lives of others - a more than adequate return for the
investment of your time." - Don Gilinsky, Consultant
"These students
will become our employees and colleagues in the years ahead, so it is in our best
interest to help them develop the skills they need to be successful."
- Stuart A. Reynolds, Associate Vice President, Fund & Portfolio Accounting Toronto
Dominion Bank
"Junior Achievement
is an important part of Markham Hydro's community involvement effort. Our senior
