FAQ

If you were fortunate enough to have someone teach you how to balance a chequebook or start a business when you were young, this is the perfect opportunity for you to pass this valuable knowledge on. All we need is your enthusiasm, your life experience, and your willingness to teach young people. We provide the training and curriculum – not to mention a group of students who are excited to meet you.

We believe that communities are built when people volunteer. That is why our volunteers are such an integral part of everything we do – without them, we would not exist. When you volunteer for JA you are not just a volunteer – you are a valued, trusted partner in the future of our community.

Our volunteers come to us from a variety of backgrounds and represent many different sectors of the economy. Whether you are fully employed, an entrepreneur, a homeworker, a full-time professional student, or are retired, we would be glad to hear from you. All our volunteers have one thing in common – a desire to pass on their skills and experience of business to inspire the next generation.

You will receive full training and support to equip you to work alongside teaching staff to deliver a JA program. We ensure you have everything you need for an enjoyable, fulfilling experience. Your educational, life and professional experience will be invaluable.

We are looking for people who are comfortable in front of a classroom, can provide leadership, have experience working in a business environment, and enjoy working with young people.

We have both one-time volunteer program opportunities and ongoing mentorship opportunities (over an 18-week period). To learn more about our programs, please visit our Programs page. (link to programs page)

Our program team works to meet your needs. We do our best to place volunteers at participating schools close to home or work, as desired.

After you register, we ask that you select a training session and make preparations based on the volunteer option and program you’re interested in.

DAY PROGRAM COMPANY PROGRAM

You can choose how much – or little – time you can give. We have a wide range of inspiring programs and an enthusiastic network of (insert volunteer number here) volunteers delivering them. This means you can choose how much time you wish to commit to being a JA volunteer. While some opt for a one-time volunteering commitment participating in our day program opportunities, others average over 56 hours over the course of a year as a volunteer business mentor helping in our Company Program. Many of our mentors love the excitement of helping young people, and return to volunteer year after year.

No, all classroom materials are provided by JA. All you provide is your time, life experience, and willingness to share your skills and expertise with local students.
